Hello!
My name is Carol and I am the Lead Massage Therapist of Compass BodyCare a San Diego, California based business.
I have found during my practice as a Massage Therapist that every body has it own special level of needs for movement, rest/calm, amount and duration of pressure and regions of care. What that means to you is a Customized Massage Session that may include therapy modalities combining portions of Swedish, Thai, Neuromuscular (Trigger Point), Rolfing, Deep Tissue and/or Hydrotherapy (usually in the form of hot/cold (contrast) applications).
Additionally, through partnering with you… you may be asked to “move a muscle” through active participation, breathe thru a constriction, or just rest, in-session, or a blend of each of these actions, to best achieve the goals for that time period. So, as you are guided thru a blend of modalities you may reaching your destination, and we are doing so together!
My professional training is from a school now defunct in San Diego, the International School of Professional Bodywork. The expectations in excellence taught there regarding maintaining healthy boundaries (client – therapist), holding space (listening to the person and body and tempering an approach) , form and function of the musculoskeletal system to personal habits and understanding the impact that one touch can have on humanity… has made a profound impact on the successful journeys undertaken by current and former clients as they be come more body aware and I more able to customize sessions to their condition(s) and goals.
Personally, I believe my tendency to smile, laugh and “Opps” through life and work has been an steady undercurrent that leads me to better assist someone through the journey of bodycare relief and awareness. No one truly is on a journey alone… unless someone is not sharing their story and a little humor can often be found in most of life’s experiences.
Massage therapy for me was a journey in the making over 15years ago when I lost my grip strength through repetitive motions of “clicking in and out” my child’s car-seat. Constantly (over)reaching and locking-in the seat at an awkward angle and given my child’s increasing weight, resulted in my experiencing unusual hand tremors, thumb weakness when gripping objects and throbbing of my thumb and hand mostly at nighttime. Little did I know, the source of the grip-loss and discomforting sensations, was further up my arm. Through visits to a Osteopath (DO), Orthopedic Sports Med facility and later a Chiropractor (DC) whom staffed massage therapist, did I finally resolve my issue. I committed to the projected number of sessions per week/month and to this date have had no issues with grip strength loss of that thumb. Incorporating my awareness of how to best position my hand/thumb while tasking has enable me to maintain better health of both hands.
OK, now, I have shared a potion of my massage journey.
